Community Service
Community Service Center Adventist Community Services This is a community - wide service designed to help all who are in need. Volunteers conduct this free service. We serve because Jesus has given a commission to help those who are in need. He has given us many examples of His love and compassion, such as the Good Samaritan who helped his fellow man. We are to do likewise. The Center is open on Wednesday mornings 9:00 A.M. to 12:00 P.M. The Adventist Community Services distributes clothing, bedding, towels, household equipment, infant items and toys. Since we rely on donations, items are subject to availability. If we are unable to help you, we can refer you to other agencies. Usable donations are welcomed, and we give thanks for your loving kindness to our service. Donations can brought to 501 E. Edwards and put into our drop box, located in the parking lot. Adventist Community Services Disaster Response The mission of ACS DR is to respond to the needs of people during a disaster. Volunteers have been trained to work in cooperation with Voluntary Organizations Active in Disaster or Community Organization Active in Disaster and government agencies to help provide relief to disaster survivors. A disaster is a natural event beyond the control of individuals that causes destruction, damage, loss, suffering and hardship in a community or communities. The most significant natural events in Colorado that can cause damage are River Flooding, Flash Flood, Dam Failure Flood, Earthquakes, Tornados, Wildfires, Drought, Winter Storms, Hailstorms, Windstorms, Avalanche, and Landslides. There can also be Technological, Social and Health disasters. Presently the voluntary organizations, government agencies, businesses, and community organizations are planning for the possibility of a pandemic caused by the H5N1 avian flu virus carried by poultry and some migratory birds. This virus outbreak started in Asia and has spread to the European continent. The World Health Organization and other government agencies are tracking the virus. A pandemic occurs when a new virus spreads among the human population from country to country rapidly. It spreads rapidly because people do not have immunity to the virus. The virus H5N1 has only been contracted by some people who live in close contact with poultry. But the concern is that it might mutate and start spreading from human to human. This is why the virus is being closely monitored and plans are being made in case this virus should mutate. The best web site to learn more about this virus and a possible pandemic is pandemicflu.gov. The best way to combat fear is by becoming educated and planning. This web site will post pertinent information as the planning process continues. You can also find check sheets to make a personal family plan. Please click here to view the Fort Collins Church Pandemic Flu Plan (PDF). During the development of our church plan, we decided to develop a template to share with other churches. If you would like a PDF copy, please click on pandemic@skybeam.com and request one. A copy will be emailed to you. Have a blessed day! Related links fluplan.larimerhealth.org
